Project 1: Redesign

Project 1: Redesign

The idea that I have had for this project is one I have had for a while. While buying glowsticks for a party, I stumbled across glow balls, basically 12 glowsticks that are inserted into a disc that gives them the shape of a ball

Upon experimenting with the  ball I discovered that when the balls spin, the colours merge and creates a solid sphere of rainbowing light. Upon observing this I decided to create an electrical light that would spin by itself and be battery powered. I took some photos of it spinning that dont quite capture the splendor of it but do give some idea of what it looks like.

Here are the questions we were asked about our lighting device,

Who designed it for which company? NA
When was it manufactured? NA
- What is the specific purpose of the product?  A party light, for fun rather than illumination
Was it designed accordingly? yes, its pretty damn fun
- Did you find any unique elements compared to other similar products? the connector piece was quite hard to come by in wellington. and is quite uniuqe in connecting glowsticks
- Does it look good? Does it work well? How do you feel when you use it?  The product looks great, esspecially when it spins and the colours merge, it works great for about 4 hours and then it starts to fade, hence why I want to make it ellectrical, It makes the user feel happy, its a happy device and a great way to get very distracted
- Have you found anything to be improved? yes, the fact that it uses glow sticks rather than electricity limit its life usage and it would be great if it could spin by itself and be held while it spins
- Where do you put it while not in use? Why? as it is it is disposable and you simply throw it away after it runs out of juice
- Have you shown it to your family or friends? What did they say about it? I showed it to a few friends who thoroughly enjoyed it, the eye is drawn to it and those around are drawn to interacting with it.

I looked at other party lights on the market and found that there wasnt a product that produced a similar effect. I used party lights and disco balls as my precidents as that was the market I was looking at, where it is the light effect produced that is the main focus of the light, rather than the way the light looks.

Brightness vibrance and colour seem to be the similarities between them all, good thing thats what Im going for
